Tinubu Nominates Lamido Yuguda as CBN Deputy Governor

President Bola Tinubu has officially nominated Lamido Abubakar Yuguda for the position of Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), subject to Senate confirmation. This announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

The nomination aligns with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007. Lamido Yuguda's appointment follows the recent departure of former Deputy Governor Bala Bello, who served as a special adviser to the president on political economy.

Yuguda is expected to bring a renewed dedication and professional commitment to Nigeria's economic stability and growth. His last public role was as the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, a position he held from 2020 to 2024.

He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, graduating with a B.Sc. in Accounting in 1983 and obtaining a Master's degree in Money Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom in 1991. Yuguda is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a CFA charterholder.
