Tinubu Directs Cheaper Transport, Unveils 500 CNG Stations

President Bola Tinubu has ordered federal and state governments to work together to reduce transportation costs across Nigeria, with the goal of implementing cheaper transport by October 1, 2026. This initiative follows a meeting with governors from the All Progressives Congress at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tinubu emphasized that the rising costs of intra-state transportation significantly affect Nigerians. A joint committee will be established to implement measures to lower public transportation costs, ensuring that savings from Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles benefit commuters.

The President announced the expansion of Nigeria's CNG infrastructure, directing the establishment of 500 additional CNG refuelling stations, which will complement an existing 500 stations ordered by the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund. Over 120,000 vehicles have been converted to CNG, with more conversion kits on the way.

Tinubu stressed the need for collaboration among all levels of government to ensure the energy transition benefits ordinary Nigerians.
