Tinubu Dismisses NMDPRA CEO During Germany Trip

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu removed Mohammed Abba Tor from his position as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) while on an official trip to Germany. The announcement was made on Wednesday at 4:05 PM.

At the time of his removal, Tor was leading a delegation at a pipeline technology conference in Berlin. Tinubu appointed Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new CEO of NMDPRA, thanking Tor for his service and wishing him well in future endeavors.

This change comes five months after Tor withdrew his decision to join the board of Seplat Energy as an independent non-executive director in December 2025. Tinubu's decision to appoint a new NMDPRA CEO follows the resignation of Farouk Ahmed on December 17.

Additionally, Tinubu had previously removed Ogbonnaya Orji as the executive secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in November 2025.
