Tinubu Dismisses NMDPRA CEO, Appoints Umar as Successor

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu announced the dismissal of Mohammed from his role as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), merely four months after his appointment. The decision, as stated by the presidential spokesman, was made in the public interest and aligns with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021.

The move aims to strengthen regulatory effectiveness within the midstream and downstream petroleum sectors, reflecting Tinubu's agenda for renewal. Tinubu has nominated Umar as the new CEO, who possesses 25 years of experience across the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors, along with a proven track record in strategic leadership and operational transformation of large-scale projects.

The nomination is subject to Senate confirmation. The statement also expressed gratitude to the outgoing CEO for his service and wished him well in future endeavors, emphasizing the President's commitment to capable leadership within the regulatory institution to advance energy security and sustain economic growth.
