Tinubu Orders EFCC to Vacate Osun Account Freeze

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu instructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to vacate a court order that froze the Osun State government's salary account at First Bank (FBN). This directive followed the EFCC's action on August 5, 2026, which Tinubu deemed inappropriate given the proximity of the gubernatorial election scheduled for August 15, 2026.

In a strongly worded release, he expressed embarrassment over the timing of the EFCC's actions, asserting that such actions could be perceived as federal interference in the electoral process. Tinubu emphasized that he had not been briefed on the matter and reiterated his commitment to allowing anti-corruption agencies to operate independently.

He stated that every action by federal institutions is attributed to him as President, regardless of his prior knowledge. The President's intervention aims to preserve the integrity and credibility of the democratic process in Osun State.
