Tinubu Urges Journalists to Prioritize National Interest

During the inaugural Presidential Press Corp dinner held at the State House in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu urged Nigerian journalists to prioritize the nation's interest over sensational reporting. He warned that the media should not become "megaphones for terrorists" or criminal groups that seek to destabilize the country.

Tinubu emphasized that irresponsible coverage undermines national security and democratic progress. He acknowledged the media's role in scrutinizing government actions but stressed the need for responsible reporting, especially in the face of security challenges.

The event was attended by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other dignitaries. Tinubu also defended his administration's economic reforms, stating that Nigeria is beginning to emerge from a period of uncertainty and is poised to reap the benefits of difficult policy decisions.

He reiterated the importance of media integrity in fostering national cohesion and urged journalists to avoid amplifying terrorist narratives.
