Tinubu's Aide Blames Media for Exaggerating Insecurity

Onanuga, a special adviser to President Bola Tinubu, accused the Nigerian media of contributing to the country's insecurity challenges by misrepresenting incidents. Speaking on television, he stated that the media often presents isolated incidents in a way that suggests widespread insecurity across Nigeria.

He emphasized that millions of Nigerians continue their daily activities without encountering security threats and criticized the media for creating problems through their reporting. Onanuga acknowledged the existence of security challenges, including kidnappings and violent attacks, but noted that these incidents often occur at night despite warnings from security agencies against late-night travel.

He referenced his own experience of completing lengthy road journeys without security incidents, arguing that the narrative around insecurity is making movement across Nigeria increasingly difficult.
