Tinubu Urges Clerics to Combat Terrorism and Violence

On Sunday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu delivered a goodwill message in Kano, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani, RTA. He called on religious institutions to actively speak out against terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.

Tinubu urged clerics to strengthen advocacy for peace education, religious literacy, and the moral formation of youth. He emphasized that their voices must consistently oppose the murder of innocents and the misuse of religion to justify violence.

The President highlighted the current societal challenges, including violent extremism and transnational crimes, and referenced a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees report indicating that 117.8 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide by the end of 2025. Tinubu noted the Tijjaniyya community's potential to support reconciliation and counter violent extremism, reaffirming Nigeria's commitment to regional cooperation and the importance of peace for stability beyond its borders.
