Tinubu Launches National Health Technology Office

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of the National Health Technology Office (NHTDAO) and appointed Dr. Obi Adigw, the former Director General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, as its pioneer coordinator.

The NHTDAO will serve as a meta-level national platform to coordinate Nigeria's digital health agenda, reinforcing but not replacing the statutory functions of relevant departments. The office aims to harmonize and empower public and private institutions across the health system, setting standards to connect operationalize Nigeria's digital health architecture.

The National Council on Health is expected to approve the office by November 2025. Dr.

Adigw has a track record of leveraging science to drive interventions, including significant projects funded by Afreximbank and the European Union. The office's steering committee will provide strategic oversight, co-chaired by Professor Muhammad Pate and Mr.

Olaniyi Yusuf, with other key members from the Federal Ministry of Health and various health commissions.
