Tinubu Commits to Reviving Nigeria's Refineries

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu stated his administration's commitment to reviving Nigeria's moribund refineries during a meeting with Salimon Oladiti, the Executive President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. Tinubu emphasized that the revival would focus on productivity rather than just operational activity, stating, “Ordinary flame and smoke of a refinery doesn’t mean it’s working, until it’s profitable.” He urged vehicle and truck owners who have switched to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to pass on cost savings to commuters.

Tinubu linked these commitments to a broader fiscal reset initiated in 2023, which has facilitated funding for major road infrastructure projects. He reiterated his stance against reinstating petrol subsidies, asserting that the removal has benefited ordinary salary earners.

Tinubu took full ownership of the economic reforms, stating that the benefits would ultimately reach the common man.
