Tinubu Promises Revival of Nigeria's Refineries

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu met with Salimon Oladiti, the Executive President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. Tinubu assured the union that his administration would work to revive Nigeria's moribund refineries, stressing that success would depend on productivity rather than mere operational activity.

He urged vehicle and truck owners who have switched to Compressed Natural Gas to ensure that cost savings benefit commuters. Tinubu linked these commitments to a broader fiscal reset initiated since 2023, which has facilitated funding for major road infrastructure projects.

He recalled a previous meeting at Akodo Resort in Lagos, where he had been clear about the direction of subsidy policy, stating that no threats of industrial action would lead to the reinstatement of petrol subsidies. Tinubu argued that the removal of subsidies has not harmed the common man, as ordinary salary earners across various government levels are among the main beneficiaries of the reforms.
