PDP Defends Wike's Support for Tinubu Amid APC Criticism

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for rejecting Nyesom Wike's political support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. APC governors expressed their refusal to endorse alliances that could threaten Tinubu's re-election in 2027.

In response, PDP's National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, asserted that Wike, as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has the constitutional right to choose his political allies. Mohammed clarified that Wike's support for Tinubu does not equate to abandoning the PDP or joining the APC.

The PDP described the APC governors' interpretation of Wike's support as a fundamental political miscalculation, stating that every political party has the right to field candidates. The PDP urged the APC governors to welcome electoral competition if they are confident in their performance and the support of their constituents.
