Wike's Aide Defends Support for Tinubu in 2027 Election

Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations that Wike acted treacherously by supporting President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. Olayinka stated that Wike has never concealed his support for Tinubu, having declared it even before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presented its presidential candidate, Professor Sunday Oloruntuyi.

During an interview on Arise TV, Olayinka argued that the term "treacherous" was inappropriate, as Wike has been transparent about his political stance. He mentioned that Wike informed Onor that while he was free to contest, the PDP's condition would hinder significant impact.

Olayinka also noted that not all 19 presidential candidates expected in the 2027 election are realistically contesting to win, citing Omoyele Sowore's previous performance and questioning the electoral strength of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and the African Democratic Congress due to their lack of governorship candidates in several states.
