Adebayo Warns Tinubu's Rule Threatens Nigeria's Democracy

Adewole Adebayo, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), expressed concerns regarding the state of Nigeria's democracy, which he believes is threatened by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's 'dictatorship.' Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Adebayo stated that issues like fuel subsidy are not the core problems facing Nigeria; rather, the survival of democracy should be the primary focus. He warned that if Nigerians fail to ensure free, fair, and credible elections, the democratic system could collapse.

Adebayo attributed growing voter apathy to the inability of political actors to present convincing alternatives and a clear vision for the country. He stressed that restoring confidence in the electoral process is crucial for sustaining democracy and highlighted the necessity of providing credible choices to voters.

Adebayo also suggested that political stakeholders could collaborate to address Nigeria's challenges, emphasizing the importance of presenting a clear alternative to reverse voter apathy and enhance democratic participation.
