SDP's Adebayo Demands Impeachment of President Tinubu

Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 election, has demanded the impeachment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing an alleged violation of the 1999 Constitution. Adebayo accused Tinubu of failing to formally transmit power to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo during his prolonged absence from Nigeria, which he claims contravenes Section 145(1) of the Constitution.

This section mandates that the President must inform the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives when unable to fulfill presidential duties. The Adewole Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign Council, through its Director of Communications, Comrade Mark Adebayo, expressed concerns about the simultaneous absence of both the President and Vice-President, arguing it poses a national security risk.

Adebayo criticized the National Assembly for not initiating impeachment proceedings, labeling it a "rubber-stamp legislature" that fails to act as an independent check on executive power. He urged Nigerians and civil society to advocate for a return to constitutional order.
