Tinubu Accused of Shortening Fubara's Tenure Illegally in Rivers State

Labour Party chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo accused President Bola Tinubu of illegally shortening Governor Siminalayi Fubara's tenure in Rivers State by declaring a state of emergency. Okonkwo argued that Fubara's term should run until November 29, 2027, instead of May 29, 2027, to compensate for the lost time.

He urged Fubara to challenge the declaration in court, emphasizing that the Supreme Court had previously ruled in favor of governors serving their full terms. Okonkwo warned that conducting a governorship election in Rivers State on November 29, 2027, would be unconstitutional and undermine democracy.
