Tinubu's US Drug Records to Be Released, Lawyer Says

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), announced that records related to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's involvement in a 1990s US drug-trafficking investigation will ultimately be made public, albeit with significant redactions. This statement was made on Tuesday in response to developments in an ongoing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case concerning these records.

A US federal court has permitted the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to present sensitive information privately, citing concerns that a full public disclosure could jeopardize law enforcement methods and individuals' safety. The FBI has invoked Exemptions 7(E) and 7(F) of the FOIA, which pertain to law enforcement techniques and the protection of individuals' safety.

Ejimakor expressed confidence that while some information will be withheld, the records will not remain permanently concealed, predicting that only details of minimal political significance will be disclosed.
