Nigerian Teacher to Be Sentenced for Toddler Assault

Elizabeth Adeagbo, a 29-year-old Nigerian teacher based in the UK, is scheduled to be sentenced on May 14, 2025, after being convicted of assaulting a toddler at a nursery. The incident took place on April 16, 2025, when Adeagbo, who was employed through the Teach Personnel Agency, was reported to have grabbed the child's trouser leg while seeking attention.

During the trial at Sefton Magistrates' Court, it was revealed that Adeagbo was washing breakfast dishes when she picked up the child, intending to remove her wet apron. CCTV footage showed the young boy crying as he was carried across the room.

The child's mother, upon receiving a phone call from the nursery, expressed her shock and concern over the incident. Prosecutor Edward Handlei stated that Adeagbo's actions were inappropriate, while her defense counsel, Caleb Suggitt, noted that she had no prior complaints and showed remorse for her actions.

Adeagbo was a mother to a 17-month-old son at the time of the incident.
