Northern Governor Approves N30k Allowance for Rural Teachers to Boost Education Sector

The Governor of a Northern state in Nigeria, Dikko Radda, approved a monthly allowance of N30,000 for rural teachers during the State Executive Council meeting. The aim is to boost staff motivation and tackle shortages in remote areas like Katsina, Daura, and Funtua.

The decision also includes the establishment of a teacher development training center to enhance the capacity of primary and secondary school teachers. Stakeholders, including Yusuf Suleiman Jibia and Raliya Yusuf from the Ministry of Education, welcomed the initiative to address teacher shortages in underserved and insecure communities.

Atin Levi from Save the Children International supported the move to encourage teachers to accept posts in challenging areas.
