Jigawa State Workshop Enhances Disaster Risk Preparedness

A recent workshop held in Dutsin-Ma, Jigawa State, aimed at mitigating disaster risks, was organized by the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) with support from the European Union and UNICEF. The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society, and media, to strengthen the state’s disaster preparedness system.

Timothy Alih from NRCS revealed that the organization is collaborating with the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to develop a comprehensive disaster management plan. The workshop also saw the inauguration of the Jigawa Disaster Advocacy Group (JDAG) on February 11, 2026, which will engage with state agencies to push for measures to mitigate disaster risks.

The plan includes training 75 volunteers to disseminate disaster response messages and conducting simulation exercises. Governor Malam Umar Namadi was commended for his commitment to disaster management, particularly in addressing flood risks.
