TCN Declares Force Majeure on Kainji–Birnin Kebbi Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced a Force Majeure Event on the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi Transmission Line after the collapse of Tower T367, which occurred at 10:44 p.m. on September 7, 2026. A trial reclosure attempt at 11:07 p.m. was unsuccessful, prompting TCN's Birnin Kebbi Sub-Region linesmen to conduct a fault-finding patrol.

They discovered the tower's collapse on September 8, attributing the incident to heavy winds and rainstorms in the area. This collapse has disrupted the transmission of bulk electricity through the corridor.

TCN has initiated plans to mobilize personnel and equipment to rehabilitate the tower and restore service promptly. Meanwhile, electricity transmission to Sokoto has been maintained via an alternative route through the Talata Mafara–Sokoto corridor.

TCN expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to electricity consumers and stakeholders, assuring that efforts are underway to restore normal service quickly.
