Fire Destroys Plumbing Market in Onitsha, Anambra

A significant fire broke out around midnight on Saturday at the plumbing section of the market near Ogbo Ogwu Medicine Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, causing extensive damage to goods worth millions of naira. The Anambra State Police Commissioner, Ikioy Orutugu, visited the scene to assess the damage and ordered an investigation into the incident.

Traders expressed their distress over the losses, with some, like Chris Okori and Ijeoma, lamenting the destruction of their shops and warehouses built over decades. Although no casualties were reported, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, with preliminary findings suggesting it may have been linked to excess heat and the storage of flammable materials.

The Anambra State Fire Service responded promptly to contain the blaze, preventing further spread. Chinedu Ezekwik, the chairman of the market's caretaker committee, confirmed the severity of the incident and commended the firefighters for their swift action.
