Traditional Ruler's Son Arrested for Arson in Bayelsa

Mr. Ibobumin Oweifa, the son of a traditional ruler in Okodi Community, Ogbia Local Government Area, was arrested by the Bayelsa State Police Command for allegedly setting Godgift Biko on fire.

The incident reportedly occurred when Oweifa accused Biko of attempting to steal firewood. Following the altercation, Biko sustained severe burns and is currently receiving treatment at the Emergency Ward of the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa.

In a telephone interview, Police Commissioner Iyamah Edebor confirmed the arrest and stated that the police acted swiftly upon receiving the report, ensuring that the victim received first aid at a nearby clinic. Preliminary investigations have commenced, and Oweifa is expected to be charged in court once the investigation concludes.

Edebor condemned the act of violence, emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable and poses a danger to human life.
