Man Shoots at Wedding in Kano, Killing One and Injuring Three

On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Rabiu Mukthar, a 34-year-old resident of Kano, was arrested after allegedly firing a pump-action gun into a crowd at a wedding ceremony in Tudun Yola Quarters. The incident resulted in the death of one person and injuries to three others.

CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the state police spokesperson, reported that Mukthar emerged from his home and began shooting sporadically at the gathering. He claimed to investigators that he was not informed about the wedding and that the loud music disrupted his sleep, which he cited as his reason for the attack.

Police responded quickly to the scene, arresting Mukthar and a second suspect, and recovering the weapon used. The deceased has been prepared for burial, while the injured victims are receiving medical treatment.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as guests fled for safety amidst the gunfire, which abruptly interrupted the wedding celebration.
