Two Arrested After Fatal Shooting at Kano Wedding

The Kano State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects after a shooting incident during a wedding ceremony at Tudun Yola Quarters in Kano metropolis on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Rabi’u Mukthar, 34, allegedly opened fire with a pump-action rifle, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to three others.

CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, reported that the police acted swiftly upon receiving information about the incident, arresting Mukthar and another individual while recovering the firearm used in the shooting. During interrogation, Mukthar claimed that the loud music from the wedding disturbed his sleep, prompting him to fire at the guests.

Both suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
