Mother and Four Children Die in Ilorin Building Collapse

A tragic incident occurred in Ilorin, Kwara State, where a three-storey building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of a mother and her four children. The collapse happened at approximately 5 a.m. on Tuesday at No. 41 Popo Giwa Street, beside Gogoro Mosque.

Eyewitness Abdulganiy Musa reported that the family of eight was affected, with the father, a serving soldier, and two other children surviving and currently receiving hospital treatment. The deceased were buried according to Islamic rites at the Muslim Cemetery in Oko-Olowo, attended by family, friends, and representatives from the Kwara State Government, including Alhaji AbdulRazaq Jiddah.

The head of the family, Mr. Lanre Qudus, stated that the building had previously failed a structural integrity test, prompting the family to move out. He indicated that the remaining structure would be demolished.

Additionally, the Chairman of the Kwara State Technical Committee of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering, Bashir Lawal, urged the government to conduct a statewide audit of buildings to prevent future tragedies.
