Transcorp Hotels Lifts H1 Profit 21% to ₦10.5bn Despite Revenue Slip

Transcorp Hotels Plc grew half-year profit after tax by 21% to ₦10.5 billion, crediting cost discipline as revenue declined to ₦44.4 billion.

Transcorp Hotels Plc, operating as the hospitality division within Transnational Corporation Plc, achieved stronger profitability in H1 2026 even though revenues declined. The company revealed unaudited financial statements on July 22, 2026, showing profit after tax jumped to ₦10.5 billion from ₦8.7 billion in the year-ago period—a 21% expansion.

Profit before tax rose by 12%, climbing to ₦13.7 billion from ₦12.2 billion recorded during the same prior-year quarter. The half-year topline fell to ₦44.4 billion versus ₦46.9 billion in the earlier comparable period.

Management attributed this decline to weaker demand in segments serving international clientele. Despite contraction at the revenue line, careful cost management alongside operational improvements drove the profit expansion.

The company's operating margins expanded by 3 percentage points, demonstrating enhanced efficiency across operations. This outcome signals a strategic pivot toward profitability growth rather than scaling topline receipts within a difficult commercial landscape.

Nigeria's accommodation sector has faced challenges from currency volatility and reduced consumer spending power. That Transcorp Hotels expanded its bottom line despite revenue constraints underscores prudent managerial oversight and strategic discipline.

The results announcement arrives within the backdrop of parent company Transnational Corporation Plc's overall H1 2026 performance. The broader conglomerate generated consolidated topline figures of ₦241.5 billion, lower than the ₦279.0 billion achieved in H1 2025.

The parent declared an interim dividend of 40 kobo per share. As a key operating division delivering reliable performance through a demanding sectoral environment, Transcorp Hotels contributed meaningfully to group resilience.
