Chelsea Targets Giorgio Scalvini After Welbeck Signing

Chelsea Football Club is preparing to sign Italian defender Giorgio Scalvini after finalizing the transfer of Brighton striker Danny Welbeck. Welbeck, a former England international, signed a two-year contract with Chelsea on Saturday, marking him as the club's fourth signing of the summer, alongside Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, and Marco Palestra.

Chelsea's management, under new manager Xabi Alonso, is actively pursuing additional signings and has shifted focus to Scalvini, who has made over 100 appearances for Atalanta and contributed to their Europa League victory in 2024. Chelsea has reportedly contacted Scalvini's representatives to negotiate a transfer, but faces competition from Tottenham and Newcastle United, both interested in the player.

Atalanta is seeking a minimum of £42 million for Scalvini. The arrival of Lacroix has increased Chelsea's central defenders to ten, prompting Alonso to consider selling at least five players, including Trevoh Chalobah, Axel Disasi, and Benoit Badiashile.

Welbeck expressed his eagerness to perform in London after a career-best season.
