Shearer Slams Chelsea's Bid for Xhaka as Embarrassing

Alan Shearer expressed strong disapproval of Chelsea's recent £8 million bid for Granit Xhaka, labeling it "embarrassing" and "unacceptable." The former Premier League goal king criticized the Chelsea board for what he deemed a disrespectful offer for Sunderland's star player, who previously captained Arsenal. Xhaka has been a key player for Sunderland, helping them exceed expectations by finishing in the top half of the Premier League.

Chelsea's manager, Xabi Alonso, who previously worked with Xhaka at Bayer Leverkusen, is reportedly interested in bringing him to Chelsea to provide leadership, especially after the team finished 10th in the previous season. Sunderland promptly rejected Chelsea's bid, reaffirming that the 33-year-old midfielder is not available for transfer.

Shearer pointed out that Sunderland had purchased Xhaka for £17 million, making Chelsea's offer less than half of that amount, which he found ridiculous given Xhaka's status as one of the best players in the league.
