Troops Recover 84 Cattle, Arrest Berom Militia in Plateau

On April 22, 2023, Nigerian Army troops arrested three individuals believed to be connected to Berom militia and successfully recovered 84 rustled cattle after an attack on Fulani pastoralists in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The operation was initiated at 5:00 PM following reports of cattle rustling near Makera Market.

Troops launched a search and rescue operation to track the movement of the stolen livestock, which were located along a river. The suspects are currently in military custody for further investigation.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of livestock theft and violence affecting pastoralists in Plateau State, particularly in areas like Barkin Ladi, Bokko, and Mangu. Previous efforts to recover stolen cattle have faced challenges, with reports indicating that criminal youth, sometimes allegedly acting in support of traditional rulers, have been involved in these attacks.
