Troops Disrupt Illegal Mining in Ebonyi, Arrest Four Suspects

On May 19, at approximately 7:30 PM, troops deployed from a forward operating base in Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, disrupted illegal mining activities. They apprehended four suspects and recovered a mini truck, sapper cable, and vehicle batteries believed to be linked to unauthorized mining operations.

Tensions escalated when youths from Iheteu Community allegedly obstructed the troops' efforts, throwing stones in support of the suspects. In response, the troops fired two warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd and restore order.

The situation was eventually brought under control without further escalation. The suspects remain in custody for further investigation, and authorities continue to take action against illegal mining activities affecting communities in Ebonyi State.
