Troops Repel ISWAP Attacks, Recover Weapons in Borno

On February 28 and March 1, 2026, troops from the Nigerian Army, under the operation Hadin Kai, successfully repelled multiple coordinated terrorist attacks on military positions in Borno State, specifically targeting Forward Operating Bases (FOB) in Mayanti and Gajiram. The assaults, attributed to fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), resulted in significant enemy casualties, with troops recovering an assortment of weapons, including three anti-aircraft guns, two RPG-7 launchers, and various rifles and ammunition.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba confirmed that despite heavy assaults, the troops maintained control of their bases and engaged in counter-offensives, resulting in the neutralization of several insurgents. Additionally, operations in the Kayawa village led to the destruction of insurgent logistics and the arrest of two suspected ISWAP suppliers.

The military's sustained offensive operations continue to degrade ISWAP's operational capacity in the northeast region of Nigeria.
