Troops Neutralize Bandit, Arrest Kidnappers in Benue

On August 19, 2026, troops from the OPWS conducted operations in Benue following credible intelligence regarding criminal activities along the Jortar–Atume axis and in Logo Local Government Area. The troops targeted a suspected bandit kingpin and his associates operating an illegal kidnapping checkpoint.

During the operation, one suspected bandit, identified by the nickname “Cool Nigga,” was neutralized in a firefight, while other members of the group fled, leaving behind a motorcycle that was recovered by the troops. In a separate operation in Logo LGA, the troops arrested two suspected kidnappers, Terhile Iyo, 44, and Vershima Emmanuel, 32, who confessed to attempting to kidnap Mrs Balame Nyikwagh, a resident of Gou Village.

Recovered items included a locally made pistol, a cartridge, five Tecno torchlight phones, a MoniePoint ATM card, an identity card, multiple SIM cards, and charms. The suspects are currently in military custody for further investigation.
