Troops Arrest Diesel Thief, Shoot Gang Leader in Akwa Ibom

Troops from the 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akwa Ibom State apprehended a driver accused of siphoning diesel from a heavy-duty truck belonging to Sterling Petroleum Fertilizer Limited, located in the Ikot Abasi Local Government Area. The operation was conducted based on credible intelligence regarding criminal activities in the area.

Captain Lawal Muhammad, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 2 Brigade, disclosed that the troops successfully arrested the driver and recovered the stolen product. However, during the operation, local youths barricaded the road and hurled stones and bottles in an attempt to free the suspect, leading to a violent situation.

The gang leader was identified and shot in the leg during the chaos. The deceased body was later discovered in a coffin beside the corps, which was subsequently evacuated to the mortuary.

The suspect and the recovered exhibit were taken to the company's headquarters for interrogation.
