ISWAP Militants Attack Military Base in Borno, Soldiers and CJTF Members Feared Killed

ISWAP militants launched a deadly assault on a military base in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in casualties among soldiers and Civilian Joint Task Force members. The attack, which occurred on a Thursday, led to significant casualties among security personnel and allied local forces.

The militants reportedly torched armored tanks and military vehicles during the raid, claiming responsibility for the operation through a released statement and video. This attack follows a recent ambush that resulted in the deaths of seven military personnel, including a newly promoted lieutenant colonel, in Maiduguri, Damasak, and Mobbar Local Government Area.

Security analysts note ISWAP's strengthening presence in the Lake Chad region, while Boko Haram, under the leadership of Abubakar Shekau, continues to expand its ranks through defections. The conflict in the region has persisted for decades, resulting in significant loss of life and displacement of millions of people, particularly in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
