Troops Repel ISWAP Attacks in Borno State Successfully

On March 8-9, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, led by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, repelled multiple coordinated attacks by suspected ISWAP terrorists on military positions in Borno State. The assaults targeted military locations in Goniri, Kukawa, and Mainok, with the insurgents attempting to overwhelm the troops from different directions.

Despite the intensity of the attacks, the troops maintained a determined defense, supported by air components of Operation Hadin Kai, which provided timely assistance during the engagement. The terrorists suffered significant casualties, leaving behind a substantial cache of weapons, including two PKT machine guns, six AK-47 rifles, eight rocket-propelled grenades, four mortar bombs, and assorted ammunition.

Although the defense perimeter at Goniri Kukawa was briefly breached, the military assured that the location remained firmly under control. Following the engagement, operations to track down fleeing terrorists and conduct cordon and search operations in neighboring communities were initiated.
