Troops Rescue 157 Civilians from ISWAP in Borno

On March 30, at approximately 2:50 PM, troops from the 135 Special Forces Battalion successfully rescued no fewer than 157 civilians who were abducted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai-Kamuya road in Borno. The incident occurred while the troops were on escort duty and engaged in a firefight after discovering the terrorists who were transporting the victims in 17 vehicles.

The troops immediately deployed to the location, successfully engaging the terrorists and forcing them to flee towards Mangari. During the pursuit, a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) team encountered an improvised explosive device, resulting in severe injuries to one soldier, who was subsequently evacuated for medical treatment at a facility in Biu.

The rescued victims, which included men, women, and children, were moved to Buratai town for onward transportation to reunite with their families. The military source indicated that troops continue to dominate the general area, although the security situation remains unpredictable.
