Truck Fatally Crushes Cyclist in Lagos; Driver Apprehended by Authorities

In Lagos, a fatal accident occurred when a truck driver, allegedly speeding to beat a traffic light, collided with a cyclist near the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). The cyclist, whose identity remains undisclosed, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was confirmed dead.

Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, disclosed that the accident involved a DAF articulated truck and an unsuspecting cyclist. Preliminary investigations revealed that the tragedy unfolded as the cyclist attempted to negotiate a roundabout beneath a bridge while the truck advanced along the Maryland Axis.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly responded, apprehending the truck driver who attempted to flee the scene. The suspect was handed over to security personnel for further investigation and prosecution in line with existing laws to prevent secondary accidents and restore traffic flow.
