Lagos Truck Accident Claims Life of Female Passenger

A tragic road accident occurred in Lagos over the weekend, resulting in the immediate death of a female passenger and serious injuries to six others. The incident involved a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number LSD 654 XY, which reportedly veered off the road and rammed into a roadside culvert.

The impact caused the female passenger to be ejected onto the expressway, where an oncoming articulated trailer was unable to stop in time, leading to the fatal collision. Lagos State Traffic Management Authority spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq confirmed the details in a statement on Sunday.

The bus's driver and six other occupants suffered varying degrees of injuries, including multiple fractures. The accident scene was cordoned off by LASTMA officials to prevent further incidents, and the injured were evacuated to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Lagos State Environment Health Monitoring Unit also attended to the scene, removing the deceased. Olalekan Bakar Oki, a representative from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged commercial vehicle operators to ensure regular vehicle maintenance, particularly of brake systems, to prevent such accidents.
