APC Chieftain Femi Sanni Calls for Security Reforms

Femi Sanni, an All Progressives Congress chieftain and governorship aspirant in Kwara State, stated that United States President Donald Trump's commendation of President Bola Tinubu’s anti-terrorism efforts highlights the necessity for Nigeria to implement deeper security reforms. In a statement issued on Thursday, Sanni described Trump's remarks as an endorsement of the Tinubu administration's evolving security strategy but emphasized that more reforms are essential to effectively address insecurity.

He called for enhanced collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments, and international partners, arguing that security challenges necessitate a coordinated response. Sanni renewed his advocacy for constitutional amendments to allow the establishment of state police, asserting that subnational governments should be empowered to support federal security agencies.

He stressed that strengthening intelligence gathering, promoting community-based policing, and improving cooperation among all levels of government are critical to combating terrorism. Sanni urged Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration’s security initiatives while advocating for sustained reforms and deeper federal-state cooperation.
