Trump: Some Americans prefer a dictator but I’m not

President Trump held a press conference in the Oval Office to announce the signing of an executive order that introduces harsher penalties for those suspected of burning the American flag and eliminates cashless bail. This move is part of the administration's efforts to crack down on crime, with a focus on addressing rising insecurity in cities like Chicago.

Trump defended the initiative, dismissing criticism that it could be seen as authoritarian, stating that some Americans may prefer a dictator but he is not one. He emphasized the need for law and order, claiming that cities like Washington have become "killing fields." Despite his assertions, Justice Department figures show a decrease in violent crime in the city last year.

Trump also directed the Pentagon to create a specialized national force to handle public order issues. Earlier this month, he announced a federal takeover of the Washington police under the Home Rule Act, allowing him to provide police assistance in emergencies.

This move follows his deployment of National Guard troops in Los Angeles, marking the first time a sitting US president has.
