Tinubu's Intervention Key to Reviving Nigeria's Aviation Sector

Allen Onyema, the Chairman and CEO of Air Peace Limited and Vice President of Airline Operators of Nigeria, stated that Nigeria's designation by the International Air Transport Association as the worst place to establish an airline business could change with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's intervention. Speaking at the 30th annual conference of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents in Lagos, Onyema emphasized that the financial crisis faced by airlines due to the 5% Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) could be alleviated.

He advocated for a fixed flat rate on ticket charges to ease the financial burden on airlines. Onyema recalled how President Tinubu swiftly waived the four percent Free on Board (FOB) levy imposed by the Nigeria Customs Service after being informed of its negative impact on airlines.

He expressed optimism that a meeting with President Tinubu would lead to significant improvements in the aviation sector, highlighting the President's commitment to supporting indigenous businesses.
