TUC Threatens Nationwide Strike Over 5% Petroleum Tax Proposal

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the federal government, threatening a nationwide strike over the proposed 5% tax on petroleum products. TUC President Festus Osifo and Secretary General Nuhu Toro criticized the tax as a reckless and economically harmful move that would burden citizens already suffering from subsidy removal, high fuel prices, food inflation, and a weak currency.

They called on the government to halt the tax plan to prevent further hardship on workers and citizens. The TUC warned of mass resistance if the government proceeds with the tax, emphasizing the need for job solutions instead of burdening the populace further.
