PDP Faction Demands INEC Chair's Resignation Over Bias

The faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki has publicly accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, of exhibiting partisanship, which they claim undermines the credibility of the electoral process. Ini Ememobong, the faction's spokesperson, stated in an interview that the INEC Chairman has failed to demonstrate neutrality, raising concerns about the commission's ability to conduct free and fair elections.

Ememobong warned that this alleged partisanship could become a significant obstacle to credible elections and urged the INEC Chairman to resign to help restore public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections. The faction's statement also highlighted that similar criticisms were echoed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which described the INEC Chairman's past partisan comments as a serious affront to the integrity of the electoral system.

They warned of potential civil disobedience should the INEC Chairman fail to step down.
