PDP Criticizes Tinubu's Foreign Trips and Their Impact

The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Dr Tanimu Turaki, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips, asserting that they have not yielded tangible improvements in Nigeria’s economy, security, or citizens’ welfare. The faction noted that despite Tinubu's claims of attracting investments during his travels to various countries, Nigeria continues to face issues such as insecurity, unemployment, and poverty.

Tinubu began a three-week working vacation in Europe on August 30, with London as his first stop. The PDP faction labeled this trip as Tinubu’s “52nd” foreign trip, claiming he has spent 261 days abroad since taking office, costing taxpayers approximately N37.64 billion.

The Presidency defended these trips as essential for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and enhancing Nigeria's global standing, citing an estimated $50 billion in FDI commitments since 2023. However, the PDP emphasized that the effectiveness of these agreements should be measured by their impact on the daily lives of Nigerians.
