Turaki Party to Appeal Court Ruling on Ibadan Convention Legality

The National Chairman of the Turaki Party, Turaki, has rejected a recent court judgment impacting the Ibadan Convention. The party plans to appeal the ruling, asserting that the convention is still legally valid.

The court had granted a prayer not sought by the party, compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Ibadan Convention as the official communication channel for the party. Turaki Party had sought a mandamus order to compel INEC to recognize the convention, but the court's decision went beyond their request.

Despite a former party member's expulsion and subsequent attempt to rejoin, the court granted relief without the party's plea. The party's National Working Committee (NWC) will file a notice of appeal and a motion to stay the judgment's execution.

Turaki emphasized that the Ibadan Convention remains legally intact, and the party is fully committed to its ongoing revitalization within the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
