FUNAAB Urged to Transform Farms into Innovation Hubs

During the 2026 pre-season farm seminar at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Dr. Akinpelu Ojo, a former director of environmental management, called for the transformation of university farms into innovation hubs.

He emphasized the need for these farms to evolve beyond traditional roles and become dynamic centers for research, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration. Ojo outlined the potential challenges facing university farms, including inadequate funding, weak industry linkages, and climate change risks.

He proposed strategies such as adopting agribusiness models, integrating modern technology, and promoting student-led enterprises to enhance sustainable value chains. The seminar was opened by Prof.

Babatunde Kehinde, who stressed the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in achieving institutional objectives. Ojo also paid tribute to the vision of former Vice Chancellor Prof.

Nimb Adedipe, acknowledging the milestones achieved under his administration, including the establishment of cashew and oil palm plantations.
