Parents Arrested After Twin Babies Found Dead in Drain

On Sunday morning, June 21, 2026, lifeless bodies of twin infants were discovered abandoned in a drainage channel along Cooper Street, Nwokedi, in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State. The bodies were wrapped in cloth and placed inside a box, making them easily visible to passersby who alerted the Okpoko police division.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a press statement. Following the discovery, police operations were initiated to secure the scene and gather evidence, leading to the identification and arrest of the biological parents of the infants, who are currently in police custody to assist with the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioy Orutugu, condemned the act, emphasizing that every child deserves protection and care. He reiterated the commitment of the police to ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law, with ongoing investigations expected to yield further developments.
