ADC Turmoil: Inuwa and Daura Resign, Shift Parties

On August 9, 2026, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State faced turmoil as two prominent governorship aspirants, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa and Lawal Musa Daura, announced their resignations. Inuwa, a veteran politician and former Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with thousands of supporters.

He previously served as Commissioner for Education and returned as SSG under former Governor Aminu Bello Masari. After losing the APC governorship primary in 2022, Inuwa joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but later contested the ADC's primary in 2026, which produced Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita as the candidate.

Inuwa rejected the primary's outcome, leading to his resignation from the ADC. Meanwhile, Daura, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services, also resigned from the ADC and joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) after losing the ADC primary.

Their departures are seen as significant shifts ahead of the 2027 elections.
