Brothers Arraigned for Assaulting FirstPower Staff in Anambra

Kingslei Chikeluba Okwuez, 39, and Nnamdi Adolphu Okwuez, 37, were arraigned on five counts in a magistrate court in Nnewi, Anambra State, for allegedly assaulting Mr. Anya Charl Uzonna, a staff member of FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited.

The incident reportedly occurred on December 27, 2025, in Amakom Village, Ifite Oraifit, where the victim was allegedly beaten and rendered unconscious. The charges include conspiracy to commit felony, assault occasioning harm, malicious damage to property, and illegal connection to electricity supply.

The brothers pleaded not guilty to the charges when read in court. Chief Magistrate Lawrence Uzuodu granted them bail of N800,000 with sureties and adjourned the matter to April 30, 2026, for further hearing.

Mr. Okechukwu Okafor, the Managing Director of FirstPower, emphasized the seriousness of the assault on electricity workers and commended the Nigeria Police Force for their prompt investigation and prosecution of the matter.
